Abstract: Health Artificial Intelligence (AI) has enormous potential to improve health care. However, at the same time, it also raises ethical and legal issues. This webinar will give an overview of the potential of health AI, also in light of the current pandemic. It will then discuss some of the ethical and legal aspects, ranging from safety and effectiveness to data privacy issues. For example, the webinar will explore the update problem of AI/ML systems and the treatment of “adaptive” versus “locked” algorithms, and give some suggestions of how regulators like the U.S. Food and Drug Administration could address these challenges. It will also explore data protection laws in the U.S. and Europe and thereby discuss recent plans such as the use of contact tracing apps to combat COVID-19.
